With your help, we DID IT! We are going to save Hamilton Marsh and its surrounding mature forest!
Since NALT’s beginning, we have been interested in protecting Hamilton Marsh and surrounding forests. We have worked first as mentor and now as a partner with the iterations of the organization now known as the Hamilton Wetlands and Forest Preservation Society (HWFPS).
Hamilton Marsh has long been on the Regional District of Nanaimo’s (RDN) radar as a priority park acquisition, and NALT has stood ready to support that acquisition.

Why Protect Hamilton Marsh?
The 36-hectare Hamilton Marsh is an important waterfowl brood marsh and stopover for migratory birds. It plays a key role in storing rainwater and recharging groundwater as the largest water body in the French Creek Watershed and contributes to the Little Qualicum Watershed as well. The Marsh and surrounding 360 hectares include mature Coastal Douglas-fir Forest habitat for a diversity of plant life, insects, birds, amphibians, and mammals that make up the iconic species of the area.
