Re-greening Urban Spaces for Our Native Pollinators

June 28 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Join us on Sunday June 28 from 1:00 – 2:30pm for a special presentation to celebrate Pollinator Week!

Re-greening Urban Spaces for Our Native Pollinators

Native plants bring native bees, even in the city. Local artist and avid naturalist Jesse Gray will be telling the story of her small urban yard transformation, which over 5 years went from a lifeless expanse of grass, concrete parking pads, and invasive weeds to a home to over 21 genera of native bees, as well as birds, butterflies, beneficial wasps, flower flies and other invertebrates .

Jesse will introduce some of the bees and their behaviours, and talk about what plants they like and why, and how thinking about overall habitat needs, rather than just feeding pollinators with flowers, can make a huge transformation in the diversity of your garden

In short: you can bring wildness to where you are, and re-greening urban spaces, especially with native plants will be an important step towards tending for pollinators into the future.

When: Sunday June 28 1:00pm -2:30pm

Where: Nanaimo Harbourfront Library, Big meeting room.
